The area under the curve is greater for IVCmax, indicating a greater likelihood of correctly predicting the need for repeat hospitalization after inpatient therapy for acutely decompensated congestive heart failure. logBNP = log-transformed values for brain natriuretic peptide; IVCmax = maximum diameter of the inferior vena cava.
